Seven Things About Moi you might not know (or care to know..):
(Feel free to scroll on past--My life isn't exactly a Disney thrill ride) 1) We have 7 dogs (2 min pins and 1 foster min pin --but we've had her for 1.5 years and she's is 14 years old-my little old lady--1 dobe, 1 husky, 1 mastiff-lab and Nantie has a Dalmatian). We really do have a herd of canines. 2) We have 0 cats. 3) Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. 4) Fall is my favorite season. 5) My all time favorite writer is Erma Bombeck. How could you not love a woman who wrote ditties like, "Housework is a treadmill from futility to oblivion with stop offs at tedium and counter productivity..." Seriously, she was a National Treasure. 6) We have 2 kids that trick or treat at our house every year but, by golly, I've got several bags of candy already stashed. I have a Plan B if more don't show.. 7) I'm a self proclaimed social media addict. R/T, m'kay?
Starting soon, Full Circle's address will be www.ourfullcircle.com !! It looks like during the transition, my "Followers" and "Blog Roll" will be mucked up. Hopefully it figures itself out! The old address should redirect to the new one...
My girlfriend Lizzie invited me for a day with MckMama at Focus on the Family! Next month MckMama will be joining us for a private tour of the FOTF campus, we'll have an intimate breakfast with her and Prince Charming (her hubby), chit chat with them informally then enjoy VIP seating to watch their interview for broadcast.
Although not a morning person, I'm waking up at 4am to make it to Colorado Springs by 8am. I'm happy to do so, by the way. Lizzie and I will have girl time undoubtedly consisting of (but not limited to) cackling, venting and gallons of coffee. Knowing the following MckMama has, we'll probably be 2 of thousands that show and hope to get a glimpse of her and her hubby. The tour will rock, as will the breakfast and question and answer period. Hopefully the VIP seating is not in the nose bleeds. But hey, even if we're way up top, it'll still be a blast.
If anyone has questions they would like me to (try to) ask, please send them along! Thanks again, Lizzie!!!
For the first time in 10 months, our house has been childless for more than 4 days. The trip to the coast and a chaotic week that followed had us spinning. There was just no time to think. It was a good distraction however, you have to face reality sometime.
That time is now.
It's like going from 5th gear to 1st. Flying along then screeching to a halt.. feeling the grinding gears the whole way. On top of it all, the house was in desperate need of tlc and laundry rose to the ceiling. Overwhelming yes but time to regroup. Pronto-like.
I spent Saturday morning dilly dallying (my Twitter friends can attest to that) and found it hard to focus. Not used to having more than 2 hours to myself (if that) having a whole day really threw me for a loop. Eventually I got my act together and a few things on my list got accomplished.
So, what's next?
The plan is to take a few months off from fostering to recover. To focus on the accomplishments and learn from the mistakes. We need to be healthy (mind, body and soul) for our next placements. Those plans would change, however, if we get a call that Jack and Jill or Mannie and Sunshine come back into the system.
Of course, my little ole blog will continue and I may have some other projects coming up as well (guest posts and other fun things up my sleeve).
Next Friday, Oct 30th the Twitterific fun starts at 5pm PST. Hosted by the Femme Fatals themselves Kadi and Danielle.. Need I say more? I didn't think so. It will surely be a SPOOKTACULAR time! ---> CLICK HERE <--- and join us!!
Well, now I can come clean and share some of the Oregon trip with ya'll. We flew into Portland, jumped in our rental, picked up Nantie's daughter and headed west. We then invaded Auntie C's beautiful home in Pacific City.
I'm sure she's still reeling..
One of our first sightseeing stops (the following morning) was for cheese and ice cream. That's how we roll on vaycay, my friends!
Auntie Moo.. I see you! Cousin J, too!
We went to see my Mother In Law's former home at the mouth of the Columbia. The view was brilliant..
Lookey Loo's? US?
In our defense, Wissa was no better!
(and yes, a neighbor did come out and asked if she could help us with anything. That got a giggle and a snort.. we're so beyond help..).
Of course, Lewis & Clark's famous Cape:
Somehow Missy overlooked the sign:
And got this great shot of the cove..
I climbed into the kids tunnel at the aquarium with Wissa.. (with all the other 3 year olds)
And DH got a finger hug from a sea anemone..
We were on a mission to find the best clam chowder on the coast. To do so, we had eat it every day (that's dedication, people!). Hence, the crying scale when I got home. Voted BEST clam chowder by our crew.. The Sea Hag in Depoe Bay (Also, My Kiwi proclaimed they have the best fish and chips he has had in the U.S. thus far!).
Best Salt Water Taffy? Bruce's Candy Kitchen in Cannon Beach (try the lemon!). DH and his siblings went there as children and it's still the family fav. We brought pounds of it home..
I had a wonderful time meeting family (who are so stuck with us now there's no turning back), seeing places I've heard about for years and visiting a very beautiful part of our country (for the first time). I wish I could've bottled the laughter (it still sings in my heart).
This trip was another reminder that time (and family) are a precious gift.
If ya'll would email your info to me at myfullcircle at gmail dot com I'll get your cards out to you!!!
A BIG BIG, "THANK YOU!!!" to my wonderful illustrator Sara Showalter for getting the caricature made on such short notice and to wonderful Cousin Kadi for dropping everything and getting the button and "Where's Wissa?" logo created.
Of course, a HUGE thank you to DH's family for letting us invade. The Oregon coast is amazing, as was the company shared. We laughed so hard my face still hurts, ate way too much (my scale cried when I got on it yesterday) and took in some fantastic sights. Some wonderful memories were made and it's a trip we'll never forget.
Wissa made loads of friends along the way and might not go into full retirement.. she may just keep popping up now and then..
The plane touched down and we had to Java up.. Got our luggage and wandered around looking for the rental car kiosk..
Hit the road and headed west to surprise Uncle M and have lunch...
Did I mention he is the manager of a pub?? We made it to our final destination a few hours later.. Auntie C's!! Her home is amazing and her views are spectacular. Day 2 should have more revealing pictures...
Some have answered correctly and will be in the running for the $10 Target gift card... Keep the comments coming, as all are entries for the big $25 Target gift card!!
(PS.. Cousin Fred Farkle, you CANNOT win any prizes as family members are automatically disqualified!)
Step aside Waldo, there's a new girl in town.. Meet Wissa! Named after the way Jack used to pronounce my name, she's a fun little gal that thought it would be a hoot to have ya'll join us on vacation .. and why not throw a contest while we're at it?
Here's how it's gonna go down. Each day Wissa is going to (try) post some pictures from our trip and ya'll need to guess where we are. Each comment will be considered an entry to win one ...DRUM ROLL PLEASE.... $25 gift card to TARGET!!! (WOO HOO!). The funnier the better (but keep it clean kids, I do have moderation power!).
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!
If you guess the CORRECT location (like the actual NAME of the airport or particular point of interest) 3 lucky readers will also have a chance to win a $10 gift card to Target, as well!!!
Tweet about it? Leave a comment - that's an entry. Tell your Facebook Friends? Leave a comment - that's an entry. Blog about it? Leave a comment - that's an entry. Grab Wissa's button and put it on your sidebar? That's an entry, too!
The following is a picture she took over the weekend she wanted to share... (NOT part of the contest-LOL)
So again, all comments are entries to win one $25 gift card to Target. Also, 3 others will win a $10 Target card for guessing the exact location. Let the games (AND VACATION) begin!!!
Mannie and Little Miss Sunshine are gone. This morning they were moved back to their Mom's. They are precious innocents and we were honored to of had the opportunity to love and share time with them. As I sit here I worry about their future. She is a ball of joy, so far unaffected by the goings on. He, however, has a lot of baggage already. Too much for only being 3 1/2... poor little guy. Please keep them all in your prayers as we're sure they have a rough road ahead.
The timing of their move could not be more perfect. This morning our furnace decided to die. No workie. No heat. It's c-c-cold and we can't get a guy out to look at it until tomorrow. It's gonna be a layering, snuggling with the hubby and doggies kinda night.
An ongoing tale of our most excellent (and terrifying) adventure yet.. adoption via foster care. This is a journey Darling Husband and I started with Nantie ("Nanny-Auntie" - a blessing from above) in 2007. Although she moved in 2010, we miss her dearly and so appreciate all she did while here.
We also have a herd of rescued canines, fear the Lord and laugh a lot.
August, 2011: Seven amazing placements and a week after we were told LittleBuddy and SweetPea were available for us to adopt, my husband passed away unexpectedly.
April, 2012: I had the honor of adopting my darling 7 year old son (Little Buddy) and 3 1/2 year old sister (SweetPea). I awoke the following day a 40something, widowed single mommy... and couldn't of been happier.
In 1999, a year after my own mother passed away I found out I, myself, was an adopted county baby. Life has some ironic twists but we all seem to come Full Circle
This is our story.
